Baylor Wide Receiver Kendall Wright drafted to the Tennessee Titans

Baylor Wide Receiver Kendall Wright has been drafted to the Tennessee Titans as the 20th overall pick. Wright was the third WR picked in the 1st round of the draft and it has been predicted that he’ll make immediate impact in the NFL.
Baylor’s coach believes Kendall will go right into the NFL as a number 1 starter for the Titans, and Kendall is ready to do his part in making that a reality.

Tennessee Keeps their Playoff Hopes Alive

After a very disappointing loss to the Indianapolis Colts the week before, the Titans came back with a victory against Jacksonville.  Tennessee started the game with a field goal and a 55 yard touchdown pass to Jared Cook. Giving the Titans an early 10-0 lead. Matt Hasselbeck has had an up and down year, and last weeks game was no different where he looked great at times, but also was the victim of two interceptions.

The Jaguars were able to answer Cook’s touchdown, with one of their on a Jones-Drew run. Tennessee was able to get another touchdown before the half, before allowing a field goal from the Jaguars. At 17-10, all Tennessee had to do was play good defense in the second half, to knock off the Jaguars and their hideous offense led by rookie QB Blaine Gabbert. The Titans were able to hold Jacksonville to a single touchdown while, adding two field goals of their own.

The 23-17 win means everything for the Titans. For Tennessee to make the playoffs, they will need lots of help. First they will have to win their game in Houston, and get a loss from the Bengals and the Jets and the Broncos and Raiders. Their playoff hopes are slim, but crazier things have happened before.

Tennessee Prevails 23-17

The Tennessee Titans had been looking for the vintage Chris Johnson for almost two thirds their season, and it appears that they have finally found him. After rushing for 153 yards against Buffalo last week, Johnson has rushed for 100 yards in three out of the last four games. A telling statistic here is that the Titans have won each game he has ran for a 100 yards or more.

After a field goal by Tennessee on their opening drive, C.J. Spiller and Chris Johnson exchanged long touchdown runs leaving the Titans ahead 10-7. Johnson was able to add another touchdown in the second quarter putting Tennessee the up 10. With Johnson running as well as he is right now there is no reason why the Titans cannot make the playoffs with their solid defense and veteran quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck at the helm.

Tennessee coasted to a win in the second half, moving their record to (7-5), tying them with four other teams in AFC. These last four games will be pivotal for those five teams who will be looking for a playoff spot. The Titans will start that four game stretch at home next week against the red hot New Orleans Saints. The Saints have been humiliating teams as of late, but expect the Titans to give them all that they have, and do not be surprised if they pull out the upset.

Titans Keep Postseason Hopes Alive With Win

Tennessee was able to keep pace with the first place Texans last week with their victory over the flailing Buccaneers 23-17. The Titans started the game offensively with a trick play on their kick return. Returner Marc Mariani fielded the kickoff and ran up field before lateraling  to  Tommie Campbell who returned it the remaining 84 yards for a touchdown and a 7-3 lead.

The Titans added to their lead in the second quarter with a field goal by Bironas who went on to have a big game for Tennessee, making 3 of 4 field goals, including one from 52 yards away. Aside from Bironas, Chris Johnson had a huge day rushing for 190 yards on 23 carries. Johnson has struggled mightily so far this season, but has had a couple nice outings over his last four games.

Before halftime Tampa Bay was able to tie the game at 10 with a touchdown pass to Mike Williams, giving the Bucs some momentum going into the second half. The start of the third quarter had an ominous feel for the Titans, when Aqib Talib intercepted a pass by Hasselbeck and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown and a 17-10 lead. Hasselbeck did not have a very good game throwing for 160 yards and a touchdown, but two interceptions as well. After a hot start to the season Hasselbeck has cooled off in past weeks.

Trailing 17-10 the Titans were able to dominate the fourth quarter, starting with another field goal by Bironas. Tennessee forced Tampa Bay to punt on their ensuing drive and took advantage of it by driving the field and taking the lead 20-17 on a touchdown pass to Damian Williams who Hasselbeck found in the back of the endzone. The Titans intercepted Freeman on the next possession and were able to add another field goal before time expired.

The Titans are going to need to keep winning to keep pace with the Texans and the rest of the AFC to have a chance of making the playoffs. Tennessee will travel to Buffalo next week to face the Bills who are dead in the water after their loss to the Jets last week.

Tennessee Hammers Carolina 30-3

For the first time this season, rookie quarterback Cam Newton was made a fool at the hand of the Tennessee Titans, who needed this win in the worst way to keep pace with the rest of the AFC in the wild card race. Another first happened in this game, and that is Chris Johnson actually looked like a real running back for once this season, which will definitely be  plus for the Titans moving forward.

Tennessee started the scoring off with Marc Mariani returning a punt 79 yards for a touchdown. The Titans were able to add another 10 points before the half and went into the locker room leading 17-0. In the second half the Titans’ defense continued to play great holding the Panthers to under 300 yards and forcing two turnovers overall against Carolina.

If Matt Hasselbeck continues to play reasonably well, and Chris Johnson builds on his 130 yard performance, the Titans will have a punchers chance of making the postseason. Next week Tennessee travels to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. That game will have equal importance for both squads and should make for a great game. If you are betting take the points with the Titans.

Titans Fall Short to the Bengals 24-17

Tennessee came into this game expecting a fight out of a Bengals team that had won four games in a row, and have received strong play out of their rookie quarterback, Andy Dalton. The Cincinnati Bengals have been the biggest surprise this season, and in some ways it should not have been a shock that they could come back from a 10 point deficit in Tennessee.

With the Titans down 7-3 midway through the second quarter, the Titans were driving and were able to take the lead on a great catch by Damian Williams, who was able to get his two feet down in the back of the end zone. Tennessee forced the Bengals to punt on their ensuing possession which gave Hasselbeck a chance to increase the Titans’ lead before the half. Hasselbeck drove the Titans 81 yards in a little over two minutes and found Lavelle Hawkins wide open in the corner of the end zone for a 16 yard touchdown pass, giving Tennessee a 17-7 lead at the half.

In the second half the Titans were not able to hold on to their lead, and could not produce anything offensively. Quite possibly the most surprising aspect of this game was that Chris Johnson played a halfway decent game, but it was not enough for what Tennessee needed. Dalton cut the lead to three with a touchdown pass to Jerome Simpson in the third quarter. Then he was able to take the lead with another touchdown pass to Andre Caldwell early in the fourth quarter.

Tennessee could not rally late in the fourth and had a crucial turnover on a Jared Cook fumble, forced by Nate Clements. With the loss the Titans fall to (4-4) and two game behind Houston in the AFC South. The Titans will need to get back on track next week in Carolina against another rookie quarterback in Cam Newton, who has played exceptionally well, but has not compiled as many wins as Dalton.
